NTT DATA Joins Business Coalition for the Equality Act to Support LGBTQ+ Rights

PLANO, TEXAS – June 30, 2021 – As this year’s Pride Month comes to a close, NTT DATA is proud to announce that it has signed the Human Rights Campaign’s Business Coalition for the Equality Act to help advance the legal protection of LGBTQ+ people under federal law.

The Equality Act is U.S. federal legislation that aims to prohibit discrimination on the basis of sexual orientation and gender identity, giving the LGBTQ+ community the same legal protections provided to other protected groups. If passed, it will provide consistent non-discrimination protections for LGBTQ+ people across employment, housing, credit, education, public spaces and services, federally funded programs, and jury service.

“We are staunch supporters of equal rights, but we know there’s still a lot of work to do. We’re taking deliberate steps to ensure we’re learning, listening and taking action to advance diversity, equity and inclusion in our company and our communities,” said Bob Pryor, CEO of NTT DATA Services. “The Business Coalition for the Equality Act is an important step toward this progress. It’s encouraging to see the impressive number and caliber of companies that have joined and we’re proud to be a part of it.”

The Business Coalition for the Equality Act has more than 400 members that collectively employ almost 15 million people in the U.S. and represent $7.1 trillion in revenue. Earlier this year, NTT DATA also helped launch the Alliance for Global Inclusion with Intel, Dell Technologies, Snap and Nasdaq, with a goal of advancing inclusivity and equity in the workplace.

Under the direction of its Chief Diversity & Inclusion Officer, Terri Hatcher, NTT DATA’s Diversity & Inclusion efforts also include a D&I Council, education and awareness programs at all levels including a certification, resources for sharing information, frequent conversations about diversity in company-wide meetings, and a vibrant community of Employee Resource Groups to give like-minded employees a place to connect.
